WIN OVER GLOBAL WARMING
Our globe with its atmosphere forms a
“Planet Earth” and the total water content of our mother planet is fixed. It
cannot be increased or decreased. Water can mainly exist in the form of water
on the ground, under the ground, as an ice-snow, steam, humidity, clouds or as
a content in living and nonliving objects.
To Summarize “Nature’s Water Cycle”, the sun radiated vapor of ground water forming
clouds which ultimately rains and drains to the ocean via rivers.
In spite of such great water
resources, if we are facing drinking water shortage or a field water shortage
for crops, it is a “Proven Mismanagement” of our natural resources. This
worldwide hiking shortage of drinking water, will invite third world war. In the
current scenario, worldwide maximum economic damage is due to water floods,
excess rains, cloud burst and tsunamis. Thus on one side there is shortage of
water and the other side is floods!! Why so? This is “Global Warming” itself. Because
of soil erosion, persisting for years and years, there is filling of rivers and
the ocean with resultant progressive submerging of sea coast land. Rising with
dangerous speed, Greenhouse Gases like Carbon Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide, Methane,
Ozone, Chlorofluorocarbons, Hydro fluorocarbons and
industrial pollution, contributes to trapped sun heat with rising global
temperature and resultant melting of polar ice glaciers, and further submerging
of sea coast lands due to rising oceanic water level.
All these collectively contribute to
“Global Warming”, with a resultant drastic weather changes. It is not only global warming, it is a “Global
Warning” too. This water damage can be dealt with, if a significant quantum
of water can be distracted from this circulating water of nature’s cycle and
stored in a Third Space. And this is the solution to Global Warming.
After the earth and sky, what is this “Third Space”?
This third space is “Tree” itself. Now let us see how?
Vital importance of trees in
maintaining our ecology is unquestionable. Trees have been looked upon as
mainly a supplier of our life supporting oxygen and as Eco preservator. By
binding the soil, tree roots helps in minimizing soil erosion. Till now, we
have never considered trees as water storage tanks.
This huge water amount in trees,
which is unaccounted so far, is the most important culprit in “Global Warming “.
Once on a
very hot summer afternoon of India, I waited at one sugarcane juice center. To
my great surprise just from one sugarcane stick, three glasses of juice was
extracted. I was alarmed. Wow!! What a great water content of just one
sugarcane stick!!
Very next day
I inquired at local saw mill, a slaughter house of trees, about the weight loss
of a tree stem on drying or seasoning. The answer was 60% or more depending
upon type and size of the tree.
This is a
matter of great significance for our Blue Planet. We destroy just one fully
grown tree and on dieing and drying, tons of water vapour is being added in
atmosphere. In the era of so called “Development “ vast deforestation is adding
millions of tons of water vapour in atmosphere, which in turn, returns as
massive rains, cloud burst, floods and tsunamis. Massive Bush fire also
contributes in the same manner. Faster the floods, faster it drains to the
ocean without being utilized and simply increasing oceanic water level.
To summarize
a revolutionary positive World War for planting and nurturing trees is a
demand of present era. Let there be millions and billions of freedom fighters
against this global warming. Each human being uses wood of at least three fully
grown trees in his lifetime. So now we have the solution. Each person on the
earth should plant and nurture at least five trees in one’s own life span to
clear one’s own debt to the universe. If we start planting trees today, then
probably planet will be relieved after twenty to twenty five years under the
shades of new generations of trees. Tree is a tree tank by two means. One, as a
storage tank of water as discussed before, and secondly as a fighting weapon
tank against global warming. Though this stored water in tree is irretrievable
in pure form, it does fulfil the water demand by effectively normalizing Ecology
and seasonal rain. More economic ways to derive water from air moisture and sea
water should be innovated.
There is
exigency to stop the atomic power race, industrial pollution, deforestation and
to reduce air traffic and to maximize the use of solar power and renewable
energy sources. All rules for healthy environment should be global and not
local. Time to time evaluation should be mandatory by the global committee. New
forests and nature parks should be developed. Ecology should be taught from
primary schools.
Can you
think about a world without any tree? No, because no survivor would be there to
think. And even a number one ruler over the world would need some human race to
rule over. Who so ever has understood the seriousness of this global warming
should start counting water credit points just like carbon credit points or say
“W” factor. Today is the first day of our remaining life. And let us not
make it the last day by not caring our mother planet.
A lot of
study and Research is awaited for better tomorrow. For study purpose I weighed
one tree, which was 1063 Kg. After seven weeks when this research paper is
being written, it weighed 375 Kg. less i.e.
35% weight loss. The drying process of the tree by natural means is
still going on with documentation to assess the further water loss which is
going to be added in the atmosphere.
To realize the vital importance of water content of the tree
in current drastic weather changes, I think this article is an eye opener.
